VACNE’s Initiative to Recognize Ancient Trees in order to Preserve Them is being Pervasive among Communities

05 October 2011 | 04:22:00 PM

The above statement was made by Madam Le Thi Thao, Vice Chairwoman of the Tay Ho District People’s Committee at a meeting with VACNE’s and VUSTA’s (Vietnam Union of Scientific and Technological Associations) leaderships to discuss the ceremony of recognition of 5 ancient trees at the district just certified as Heritage Trees.

Together with the ancient trees recognized in 2010, up to now, Tay Ho District has 14 ancient trees recognized as Vietnam Heritage Trees and the district became the leading locality in this country-wide campaign.

After hearing a speech of Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Sinh, VACNE’s President, introducing briefly about the formulation of an idea as well as the process of implementing the event of recognizing Vietnam Heritage Trees, the Vice Chairwoman of the Tay Ho District highly appreciated the VACNE’s idea as well as the staff of the District’s Cultural Division who with enthusiasm and timely have put forward this activity to Tay Ho District since 9 Muom trees (
Mangifera foetida Lour) at Voi Phuc Temple, Thuy Khue Ward were recognized. This activity not only re-establishes a good tradition of the community but also has a great meaning in preservation of environmental landscapes, conservation of historical-cultural heritages in Tay Ho District, and creating new and unique tourism points in Vietnam.
