Vietnam breaks tourism record with over 19 million international arrivals

08 December 2025 | 06:03:00 AM

Vietnam welcomed 19.15 million international visitors in the first 11 months of 2025, surpassing its pre-pandemic peak and marking one of the world’s fastest tourism recoveries.

Vietnam received 19.15 million foreign visitors in January to November, up 20.9 per cent from a year earlier and exceeding the previous record of more than 18 million arrivals, official data showed on Saturday.

November alone saw 1.98 million visitors, up 14.2 per cent from October and 15.6 per cent year on year. It was the country’s third-strongest month in 2025 after January and March, both above two million arrivals.

The UN Tourism agency highlighted Vietnam as one of the world’s most notable post-pandemic recoveries. While Asia Pacific tourism has reached only about 90 per cent of pre-Covid levels, Vietnam is among a handful of destinations, alongside Japan, posting rapid and sustained growth.

Asia remained the largest source market with 15.10 million visitors, up 19.7 per cent year on year. Arrivals from Europe rose 37.8 per cent to 2.46 million, the fastest growth among all regions. Visitors from the Americas increased 9.4 per cent to 993,700, while Oceania rose 13.6 per cent to 549,800. Arrivals from Africa reached 51,200, up 9 per cent.

China remained Vietnam’s biggest market, sending nearly 4.8 million visitors, or one quarter of all arrivals. South Korea followed with more than 3.9 million. Taiwan, the United States and Japan completed the top five. India, Cambodia, Russia, Malaysia and Australia made up the rest of the top ten.

Arrivals from China grew 43.1 per cent year on year. European markets recorded strong gains following relaxed visa rules, while Russian visitors surged 191 per cent to 593,000 in the January to November period.

Air travel continued to dominate with 16.2 million arrivals, or 84.5 per cent of the total. Land arrivals reached 2.7 million, up 22.2 per cent, while sea arrivals rose 3.4 per cent to 228,800.

Rising tourist numbers boosted service earnings. Travel-service revenue reached VND 85.4 trillion (approximately USD 3.2 billion), up 19.9 per cent year on year. Major destinations reported double-digit growth, including Hanoi (23.4 per cent), Ho Chi Minh City (22.3 per cent), Quang Ninh (18.2 per cent), Vinh Long (14.1 per cent) and Danang (13.2 per cent).

Accommodation and food-service revenue increased 14.6 per cent to VND 767.8 trillion, supported by domestic demand and the return of long-haul travellers.

Vietnam aims to attract 23 to 25 million international visitors in 2025.
