Three rare monkeys have been voluntarily handed over by households in the central province of Quang Binh to the local Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park Management Board.

The Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park Management Board on Friday received two rhesus monkeys and one assam macaque from families in Tuyen Hoa and Minh Hoa districts.

The two rhesus monkeys weigh 12 kilogrammes in total and the assam macaque weighs around five kilos. They are currently in bad health.

These animals are listed among endangered species which need to be preserved.

The national park recently received 14 rare animals transferred by local residents, including small Indian civets and monkeys.

Authorities in Quang Binh have actively called for people to hand over rare animals to be released into the wild
