The Ha Tinh langur (Trachypithecus hatinhensis) is an endangered primate species, according to the International Union for Conservation of Nature and Vietnam's red list. The woodsmen who found 60 of the langurs in the province's Thach Hoa Commune in Tuyen Hoa District helped department staff identify the animals.

The department educated surrounding communities on how to protect the langurs, which often wander near residential areas.

Also in Quang Binh Province, Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park authorities have announced a new species of Ceylon caecilian (Ichthyophis glutinosus) found in the park.

The amphibian lives on rotten forest floors near rocky streams, and can be found near Cha Lo Village in the province's Minh Hoa District.

With the discovery of the new caecilian species, researchers have recorded the existence of 51 amphibian species in the park.
