Hue moves towards zero plastic waste city

12 August 2024 | 04:09:00 PM

Organizations, businesses, and historical sites in Hue city are undertaking several activities to reduce plastic waste in tourism activities. These efforts aim to make Hue a green, clean, and brilliant city.

Tourists to Hue are encouraged not to use plastic waste

Tourism and service businesses in Thua Thien Hue province, especially those near historical sites, have implemented initiatives to encourage the community and tourists to change their habits.

The "Hue - Urban Plastic Reduction in Central Vietnam" project, in collaboration with the Hue Monuments Conservation Center, has introduced tourist shelters and drinking water stations at King Gia Long's tomb, the Minh Mang and Dong Khanh tombs, Thien Mu pagoda, and other attractions in Hue city. Le Cong Son, Deputy Director of the Hue Monuments Conservation Center, said:

"We set up free drinking water stations for visitors to discourage the use of plastic containers within the relics. This is also a way to spread awareness about waste reduction in heritage areas, ultimately helping Thua Thien Hue become greener, cleaner, and brighter."

Nguyen Thi Hue, a tourist from Ha Noi, said: "This is a good way to communicate to the public and tourists about environmental protection. With the availability of clean water stations here, the use of plastic containers will be reduced and help protect the environment."

Hue city is implementing various solutions to reduce plastic waste and create green tourist destinations. These efforts aim to enhance the responsibility of residents and tourists in protecting the environment.

Ms. Hoang Ngoc Tuong Van, Director of the "Hue - Urban Plastic Reduction in Central Vietnam" Project Management Board, said: "We are coordinating with Hue authorities and the Hue Monuments Conservation Center to promote the reduction of single-use plastics at heritage sites and tourist attractions. Our goal is to establish Hue as a heritage destination with no plastic waste."

In addition to promoting green tours and destinations, Thua Thien Hue province is advancing the "Say No to Plastic Waste" movement at hotels and service businesses.
