Hue launches Vietnam’s first ride-hailing cyclo service

16 August 2025 | 07:04:00 AM

Grab Vietnam – the local arm of Singapore-based ride-hailing Grab – has launched “Grab Cyclo” in the central city of Hue, the first digital cyclo service in the country.

Hue city is committed to building a “heritage, cultural, ecological, landscaped, environmentally friendly and smart city,” and welcomes initiatives that preserve cultural values, promote digital transformation, and enhance tourism services.

Grab Vietnam – the local arm of Singapore-based ride-hailing Grab – has launched “Grab Cyclo” in the central city of Hue, the first digital cyclo service in the country.

The trial, unveiled on August 15, aims to drive digital transformation in the transport and tourism sectors.

Standing Vice Chairman of the Hue city People’s Committee Nguyen Thanh Binh said the city is committed to building a “heritage, cultural, ecological, landscaped, environmentally friendly and smart city,” and welcomes initiatives that preserve cultural values, promote digital transformation, and enhance tourism services. He cited Grab Cyclo as a prime example.

The service offers visitors and locals a convenient way to travel, while preserving the traditional cultural value of Hue’s iconic cyclo – especially in a city that boasts eight UNESCO world heritage sites, Binh said.

The service uses Hue’s iconic pedal-powered rickshaws, adorned with motifs of boats, the Perfume River, and Truong Tien Bridge. It offers the same service quality as other Grab transport options. Passengers can book rides via the Grab app for up to 60 minutes, starting or ending at five designated pick-up points.

Grab Vietnam’s Market Development Director Tran Hoang Tuan said Hue is currently the only city offering Grab Cyclo, with plans to expand pick-up locations and create new digital-era livelihood opportunities for local drivers.

To celebrate the launch, Grab is offering its “Hue in Love” promotion, with discounts on transport, dining, and local speciality shopping.
