Hue clears massive oil slick.

13 March 2025 | 06:46:00 AM

Authorities in Hue City in the central province of Thua Thien-Hue have cleaned over 200 tonnes of congealed oil from a local beach.

The effort lasted nearly two weeks and covered a 17-kilometre stretch of beach from Loc Vinh Commune to Lang Co Town in Hue City. The Phu Loc District People's Committee mobilised up to 1,600 people from various agencies, including military forces and residents, to carry out the work.

According to the committee, the amount of congealed oil collected was about ten times higher than initial estimates.

The clotted oil is now being packed into sacks and transported to the SOS Environmental Centre in Da Nang's facility to be treated according to regulations.

The Phu Loc District People's Committee also continues to instruct concerned agencies to monitor marine environmental developments to ensure ecological safety.

The oil slick was found on Phu Loc Beach on February 24.

The Hue City Department of Agriculture and Environment collected seawater samples from four locations for testing. The results indicated that pH levels and mineral oil content met regulatory standards.
