Since 1981, reclaiming Dong Thap Muoi, or Plain of Reeds, a wetland turned desolate for thousands of years by alum, has transformed it into a crowded, prosperous region.

The Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Nguyen Minh Quang held a working session on May 16 with the Administrations of Environment and Sea and Islands on the celebration of 2012 Environment Day and Sea and Island Week. These two events to be hosted by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment and will take place at the same time. There are proposal for the change of timings.
