17 October 2016 | 10:04:00 AM

On the occasion of 62 anniversary of the liberation of the capital city of Hanoi (10 Oct 1954 – 10 Oct 2016), Hanoi’s Party Secretary Hoang Trung Hai, Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Tran Hong Ha and other leaders inaugurated Cau Nga wastewater treatment plant.

Inauguration ceremony of Cau Nga wastewater treatment plant.

A wastewater treatment plant running on solar power has been built in Cau Nga craft village in Hoai Duc District, Hanoi. This is the first large-scale solar-powered project in the capital city.

With a treatment capacity of 20,000 cubic meters per day, the facility collects wastewater in the village for treatment and helps reduce water pollution in nearby rivers.
The capital is currently home to more than 1,350 craft villages that uphold traditional trades but cause serious environmental pollution due to outdated production technology. The city government will consider using private sector finances to build more wastewater treatment plants in these villages in the coming time.

The project was built in Dec 2015, after 10 months of construction, the wastewater treatment plant was completed satisfying the capital city’s regulations QCTDHN 02: 2014 / BTNMT. The project will collect and treat wastewater in Cau Nga craft village, benefiting the local population in particular and people in Hanoi in general; reducing the load of pollutants in downstream, including Nhue and Day rivers; bringing new development opportunities and ensuring the comprehensive sustainable development for Hanoi and surrounding provinces.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, the Minister Tran Hong Ha highly appreciated the model of socialization treatment plant which adopted modern and advanced technology for the first time using renewable solar energy. He proposed to improve the procedures and replicate the model in other localities.
