An UK expert desires to help in Lightning Protection for heritage trees of Vietnam

26 January 2011 | 03:43:00 PM

VACNE – Mr. Ben Fuest from UK has sent us some articles on methods and technology of lightning protection for trees. With permission of Mr. Ben Fuest we now introduce these articles on VACNE website for our members and organizations, persons who are interested. Thanks Mr. Ben Fuest

Dear Sir

I read today about the heritage trees of Vietnam and am most impressed. My name is Ben Fuest I live in the UK and teach tree care people about Lightning Protection for trees. I have many clients in the UK including the Royal Botanic Gardens at Kew.

I also teach in N. America my methods and technology, in particular The Davey Tree Expert Co. This has all been made possible by using the the Arborbolt dynamic tree fixing system.

I understand lightning in Vietnam is quite common and could be responsible for many tree losses. I can stop this from happening and teach your people how. If you would like to know more then I would be happy to supply you with more information. I have published scientific papers and would send to you if you wish.

I hope this is OK for and that you find it interesting. I have sent two articles and some pictures including one of me on my day off in Florida. My back ground is as a forest worker felling timber in the forest. For the past ten years I have been working on Lightning Protection for trees. This has been a fantastic journey that I wish to share with as many as possible. I have found that there are many misconceptions relating to the subject and endeavour to correct them. Lightning protection systems as fitted to trees should never be undertaken lightly, full consideration should be given to the subject tree. Should you or your collie-gs have any questions then I am happy to assist.

Kind regards Ben Fuest
