Buddhism contributes to sustainable development

10 May 2014 | 08:29:56 AM

The contributions made by Buddhism to sustainable development, environmental protection, healthy lifestyles, peace keeping and education were discussed in Ninh Binh province on May 9.

The forums were held within the framework of the ongoing 2014 United Nations Day of Vesak (Buddha’s Birth, Enlightenment and Passing Away) in the northern province.

Delegates, both from home and abroad, delivered speeches highlighting the attention of the Buddhist community to global issues.

They asked for the strong implementation of commitments made by countries and territories all over the world to fight against poverty, diseases, illiteracy, environmental degradation and gender discrimination.

They also stressed the importance for each nation to have appropriate policies to facilitate the sustainable development of economies.
