All golf course projects to be inspected

10 June 2010 | 07:19:00 AM

All golf course projects across the country will be inspected next month, and many of them will be canceled, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment said in a report to the National Assembly on June 7.

According to a plan approved by the Prime Minister for golf course development, in addition to the 19 courses already operational, 70 another will be built. However, between July 1, 2006 and June 4, 2008, the authorities of provinces and cities have approved 128 golf course projects for licensing, the report said.

“Therefore, the excessive number of new projects must be terminated,” Natural Resources and Environment Minister Pham Khoi Nguyen said in the report.

“Therefore, the excessive number of new projects must be subject to cancellation,” Natural Resources and Environment Minister Pham Khoi Nguyen said in the report.
The ministry said it would work with other relevant ministries and agencies to determine which kind of land should be used for golf course construction and improve regulations on State revenue received from golf courses.
The ministry has proposed that the Prime Minister minimize projects that use wet rice farmland for golf course construction. It advised that golf courses be built on midland only.
It also called for a ban on using the land allocated to golf course projects for building houses for sale.
The results of the inspection will be reported to the NA at its next session, the ministry said.
