Vietnamese rare bird and animal species in photos

22 October 2024 | 09:14:00 AM

Vietnam is a biodiversity hotspot that is renowned for its many rare bird and animal species. Let’s have a look at some images and information about these species.

Vietnam is one of the most biodiverse countries in the world, especially when it comes to wild birds and animals. The country boasts various ecosystems such as tropical rainforests, mangrove forests, grasslands, and high mountains, creating rich habitats for many wildlife species. Nearly 1,000 bird species and over 300 mammal species have been recorded in Vietnam. (In the photo is the blue-tailed pheasant by author Truong Huynh Son)

Vietnam’s biodiversity is a precious natural resource that is currently under serious threat due to habitat loss, illegal hunting, and climate change. Many bird and animal species have completely disappeared from the wild in Vietnam over the past years, such as the white-crested gibbon, rhinoceros, wild buffalo, and others. Protecting and conserving biodiversity is an urgent task to ensure the balance of ecosystems and the future of many wild plant and animal species. Over the past decade, wildlife photography, particularly the capturing of images of birds and mammals in Vietnam, has rapidly developed. Currently, hundreds of photographers in the country are passionately and diligently documenting the beauty of wild animals. (The black-faced spoonbill by author Duong Tran Hai)

Wildlife photography is actively promoting a love for nature and raising public awareness about the importance of conserving bird and animal species, as well as their habitats. Photographers capture the beauty and diversity of these creatures, such as the Hù (likely referring to a type of owl), showcasing their unique behaviors and environments. This effort helps to inspire a deeper appreciation for wildlife and the need for conservation initiatives to protect these vital ecosystems.

The photo contest and exhibition “Wild Birds and Animals of Vietnam” in 2024 aims to create a truly enriching and friendly platform for nature photography. It seeks to highlight the beauty of Vietnam's wildlife, specifically its bird and animal species, to a wide audience both domestically and internationally. The contest aims to evoke a love for nature, especially towards wildlife species, fostering a sense of humanity and purpose in protecting, conserving, and developing wild plants and animals. (The brown-footed macaque captured by photographer Tran Du Dao).

It encourages the community to learn about the lives and current status of various bird and animal species, as well as understanding the legal regulations regarding the management and protection of wildlife in Vietnam. (The brown-headed gull photographed by Nguyen Quoc Hoai).
