The flat-leaved pine forest in Bidoup - Nui Ba National Park has been recognized as Vietnam.Heritage Tree of Vietnam.
(VACNE) - Recently, in Lac Duong District (Lam Dong Province), the Vietnam Nature and Environment Protection Association, in collaboration with Bidoup - Nui Ba National Park, solemnly held a ceremony to recognize the cluster of 108 flat-leaved pine trees as Vietnam Heritage Trees.
The flat-leaved pine, scientifically named Pinus krempfii H. Lec, is a rare and endemic plant species that exists only in the Langbiang plateau and its surrounding areas, and is regarded by botanists as the 'messenger from prehistoric times'.
The cluster of 108 flat-leaf pine trees recognized this time is located in compartments 3, 4, 5 of sub-zone 89 and compartments 1, 2, 3 of sub-zone 90, which are under the management of Bidoup - Nui Ba National Park, in the administrative boundaries of Da Chais commune, Lac Duong district, Lam Dong province. The trees have an average age ranging from 700 to about 1,000 years, with heights from 35 to 40 meters. They are considered the largest flat-leaf pine cluster in Vietnam and the world today.

The ceremony to receive the Certificate and Decision recognizing the Heritage Tree of Vietnam is held right under the canopy of the ancient flat-leaved pine trees in the forest of Bidoup - Nui Ba National Park.
The ceremony to recognize the Heritage Trees was attended by representatives from VACNE; leaders from the Propaganda and Education Department and the Mass Mobilization Department of the Lam Dong Provincial Party Committee, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Lam Dong Province, the leaders of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Lam Dong, representatives from various departments and agencies of the province, leaders of Lac Duong District, and a large number of officials from Bidoup - Nui Ba National Park and local residents.

Speaking at the ceremony, Associate Professor, Doctor Tran Ngoc Hai - Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Heritage Tree Council stated: the title of Vietnam Heritage Tree not only honors the value of rare ancient trees but also has a practical meaning in raising community awareness about environmental protection, preserving rare genetic resources, and promoting ecological tourism linked with nature conservation.
