(SGT)-The representative of the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) and the managing board of Cat Tien National Park on Wednesday opened a community tourism guest house in Dong Nai Province in a bid to help local people develop eco-tourism.

Tran Minh Hien (L), director of WWF Vietnam, gives a present to K’Yeu, an ethnic representative joining in the community tourism project.

It is a part of the eco-tourism development program implemented by WFF in coordination with Cat Tien National Park in 2008.

The presence of the guest house, also referred to as the ‘long house’, will help ethnic people living near the park earn a living and reduce their reliance on natural resources.

WFF will offer local people e-co tourism training courses so that they can become tour guides for tourists visiting the park.

Moreover, a supervision system will be equipped in order to assess the impact of tourists on the environment of the park. It will help the managing board of the park make suitable adjustments to protect the park from any adverse effect caused by tourism activities.

All expenses of the project are covered by WWF. At present, the travel firm Vietadventure is responsible for managing the guest house and offering tours to Cat Tien National Park.

Covering 125 square meters, the guest house is built with eco-friendly building materials such bamboo, log, and rattan. It has a 100-square-meter yard in the shade of big trees.
