FK volunteers visited Kien Giang Province
The results of this project are not only some articles published by the volunteers, knowledge, foreign language skill and living skill gained by them but also thanks to this activity, many barriers such as language, culture, and custom ones have been gradually removed to bring nationalities closer together.
Volunteers also affirmed that there are important factors contributing to achieve this result. Firstly, volunteers need to overcome hardships, and endeavor to face difficulties and challenges. Besides, there are active supports from Fredskorpset (FK) - a Norwegian nongovernmental organization, Vietnam Forum of Environmental Journalists (VFEJ) and Vietnam Clean Air Partnership (VCAP) under VACNE.
Journalist Hoang Quoc Dung, VFEJ’s Permanent Vice Chairman said in 2010, VFEJ mainly focused on South-South Exchange Program sponsored by the Fredskorpset (Norway) and the project on Improving Communication Competence funded by the Ford Foundation. Thanks to such programs and projects, VFEJ has received two volunteers from Laos and China to work in Vietnam. At the same time, it has appointed two intern journalists to these countries so that they can improve their skills in writing articles on environment via practice.
Thanks to the implementation of these projects, over the last year, VFEJ has organized many other activities. For example, VFEJ held workshops and field trips in Hai Duong and Quang Binh provinces about industrial parks’ influence on environment and floods. As a result, many news, articles and images with good content have been released in domestic media, which contributes to raise awareness of the community about environment, ecology, history and culture in Vietnam.
