(VACNE) - On September 7, 2023, the Vietnam Heritage Tree Council has reviewed nearly 1,600 ancient tree dossiers from provinces and cities: Hanoi, Bac Ninh, Hai Duong, Vinh Phuc, Ninh Binh, Thanh Hoa, Quang Nam, Khanh Hoa, Dong Nai, Binh Phuoc have just been sent back, recognizing 1,007 trees qualified for Vietnam Heritage Trees.
Quang Nam province is the leading locality in the number of trees recognized as eligible in this review. Specifically: The Forest Protection Department and the Culture Department of Tay Giang district sent dossiers of 1,503 green Lim trees (with stem circumference from 1.5 to 6 meters) in the area of Ta 'ry and Pôr'ning villages, of Lang commune to the Council and identified by experts: there are 959 trees over 200 years old, qualified Vietnam Heritage Tree.
Binh Phuoc province is the second locality on the list of this review, with 27 trees, in Sub-area 379 Ma Da, Tan Hoa commune, Dong Phu district, registered by B58 Company. In addition to the 135 trees that have been considered in previous batches, so far this area has 162 trees, belonging to 15 species recognized as Vietnamese Heritage Trees.
Hanoi City ranked third, with 7 trees. It is a banyan tree for more than 400 years in the compound of the Holy Mother Temple, in Kim Bong village, Kim Duong commune (Ung Hoa district). Four trees nearly 150 years old (02 fig trees + 02 Voi trees) in Chu Xa village, Van Duc commune (Gia Lam district). Two other ancient trees of Hanoi city (239-year-old banyan tree and 308-year-old ruoi tree) of Thuy Ha village, Bac Hong commune, in Dong Anh district were also recognized in this batch.
Bac Ninh, Vinh Phuc and Khanh Hoa provinces all have 02 Vietnamese Heritage Trees in this review, but each place has its own characteristics. If the original Da 09 tree in Thuong Temple and the Honey Pine tree in Thuong Temple, of Tay Thien scenic area (Vinh Phuc) are classified as the most old, the two trees: Yellow Quao and Xoay tree in Hoa Thanh Pagoda and Tan Lap pagoda (both in Cam Thanh Bac commune, Cam Lam district) are new plants, shortlisted for the Vietnam Heritage Tree.
This time, Thanh Hoa province has 04 ancient trees recognized as eligible for recognition of Vietnamese Heritage Trees. It is a banyan tree for more than 100 years on the campus of the commune secondary school and 02 trees (01 banyan tree + 01 bang tree) both more than 100 years, in Mau temple, Van Co village, Ha Lai commune, Ha Trung district. In particular, there are more than 700-year-old trees of Ky Linh Moc Joint Stock Company, Quang Thinh ward, Thanh Hoa city that are also considered as qualified.
If the President of VACNE approves all the trees approved by the Council, this would be the largest number of Heritage Trees ever.
