The first ancient Shan Snow Tea complex of Lao Cai province is honored with Vietnamese Heritage Tree

(VACNE) - These are 105 snow Shan tea trees over 100 years (with trees more than 240 years) of households, in Ho Chai village, Hoang Thu Pho commune, solemnly organized by authorities and ethnic relatives of Bac Ha district, solemnly organized to receive the Certificate of recognition and attach the Vietnamese Heritage Tree beer on September 16, 2023.

 Attending and sharing joy with local people were: Nguyen Duy Hoa, Provincial Commissioner, Secretary of Bac Ha District Committee; Ta Cong Huy, Deputy Director of Department of Agriculture and Rural Development; Lai Vu Hiep, Deputy Director of Lao Cai Department of Tourism, leaders of the Vietnam Environmental Protection Association and representatives of neighboring administrative units.

Speaking at this event, VACNE representatives highly appreciated the awareness and efforts of Bac Ha district officials in responding to the Heritage Tree conservation movement; At the same time, he expressed his gratitude to the ethnic groups of Ho Chai village, Hoang Thu Pho commune for preserving the rare genetic resources left by ancestor and hoped that these Heritage Trees would contribute to promoting local socio-economic development.

In the opening speech and introduction of the history of Vietnamese Heritage Trees by leaders of the People's Council Office, Bac Ha District Department of Agriculture and Rural Development affirmed that the event honoring Vietnamese Heritage Trees for ancient Shan Snow Tea Trees, is a useful activity,  It directly protects endemic trees, contributes to improving the lives of local people, but also educates traditions: appreciating the past and being proud of the traditions of the homeland.

Speaking at this solemn ceremony, Ms. Chu Thi Duong, Vice Chairwoman of Bac Ha District People's Committee said: The selection of Vietnam Heritage Tree recognition for these ancient Shan Tuyet tea trees, not only contributes to actively protecting tens of thousands of existing perennial tea trees,  but also promote the development of hundreds of hectares of Shan Snow tea that are being planned to be planted scattered in localities in the district. Currently, this specialty plant has created 3-star OCOP products for Lao Cai province and has found a foothold in some European countries. Shan Tuyet tea tree is bringing dual benefits to local ethnic peoples, when linking tourism development with sustainable agriculture.
