Ho Chi Minh City will introduce a public electric bicycle service from March 15, offering residents a free 15-minute trial to encourage the use of environmentally friendly transport.
To mark the launch, residents can try the service free for 15 minutes after downloading and registering through the TNGO app. The trial will take place at the public bicycle station near Tax Trade Centre on Nguyen Hue Street.
The free trial runs from 4 pm on March 15 until March 31.
Proposed pricing for the electric bike service is VND 10,000 for 15 minutes, VND 20,000 for 30 minutes, VND 35,000 for 60 minutes, VND 60,000 for 120 minutes and VND 110,000 for 240 minutes. Authorities said the final pricing may be adjusted based on operational conditions.
Officials said the new service aims to diversify urban transport options, encourage residents to adopt greener travel habits and reduce reliance on private vehicles.
The public bicycle programme in Ho Chi Minh City was first launched in late 2021 as part of a broader initiative to expand public transport and manage the use of personal motor vehicles in the city centre.
