POTENTIAL IMPACT ASSESSMENT OF CLIMATE CHANGE ON AQUATIC ECOSYSTEMS IN DONGNAI RIVER BASIN

INTRODUCTION
Vietnam is a country of fifth strongest impact of climate change in the world. According to the scenarios, the climate of all regions in Vietnam will be greatly altered. In the 21st century, the projected mean temperature (2.30C), the increased annual mean rainfall, the raised rainfall of rainy season, the reduced rain fall of dry season and the raised sea level (75 cm) have been altered relative to period from 1980 – 1999.
Although freshwater ecosystems (rivers, streams, canals; lakes, reservoirs; and freshwater wetlands) and coastal wetlands generally can maintain a healthy and self-sustaining condition despite large year-to-year variation in hydrologic and temperature conditions, rapid climate change may impose new environmental regimes that will exceed the limits of the resilience of aquatic ecosystems. As a result, these systems are increasingly isolated and disconnected, making adjustment to rapid climate change through animal and plant dispersal. Thus, climate change clearly represents a significant threat to aquatic ecosystems, one that will interact in complex ways with human activities.
This report focused the potential impact assessment of climate change on the aquatic ecosystems preliminary in the Dongnai River Basin. These evaluations was to approach the detail studies in the near future.
