VACNE-Recently, VACNE’s Heritage Tree Board has continuously received official letters from People’s Committees of communes and wards, and local authorities that suggest the Board to consider the recognition of their ancient trees as Heritage Trees so that people can take special care and protection of them.
Some typical examples are the ancient “Si” tree (Ficus Benjamina) in Dong Thai commune, Ba Vi district, Hanoi, which is hundreds years old and being attached to the history of the fight against French colonists by residents in Dong Thai commune; the ancient "Loc vung" (Barringtonia accutangula) in Hoac Chau ward, Chau Son commune with 3.6 meters in diameter, thousand years old and being located in a village temple which was built 500 years ago.

Especially, the giant banyan-tree (Ficus bengalensis) near Tan Vien Son Thanh Temple in Quyt hamlet is now one of the biggest and most ancient tree. The tree grows well and is about 1,000 years old. It has two stems whose diameters are 43 and 37 respectively and the highest peak of about 40 meters.
Prof. Dr. Sc. Dang Huy Huynh, Chairman of Vietnam Heritage Tree Board said that many public organizations and residents in localities across the country sent their registry files to ask VACNE to approve and recognize Heritage Trees. The Board will review the trees with completed files in April. The Decisions on recognizing some Heritage Trees signed by VACNE’s Chairman of Vietnam Heritage Tree Board will be sent to localities to organize the ceremony to honor these trees as soon as possible. In April, 2011, VACNE will coordinate with local authorities to organize the ceremonies to honor a row of "Duoi" trees (Streblus asper) in Duong Lam (Son Tay) and “Sa mu dau” tree (Cunninghamia konishii hayata) in Pu Mat (Nghe An) as Vietnam Heritage Trees.
