Launching towards the International Conference on “Impacts of Pollution on Biodiversity and Human Health”

(VACNE) - On February 11, 2022, under the chairmanship of Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Sinh, nearly 30 experts of VACNE and experts from a number of other fields met directly and online from the bridgeheads: Hanoi - Hue - City. Ho Chi Minh City, together to discuss to prepare for the Workshop on "Impacts of pollution on biodiversity and human health" which will take place in early March.

This is the first international conference in the form of face-to-face and online, between scientists of the Vietnam Association for Conservation of Nature and Environment (VACNE) and representatives: the UK
Department for Environment Food & Rural Affairs (DEFRA), the Joint Nature Conservation Committee (JNCC), Global Alliance for Health and Pollution (GAPH), after being approved by the Ministry of Natural Resources & Environment of Vietnam.

The main objective of the Workshop is to collect the critical opinions of Vietnamese experts for the JNCC Review Report on this topic; towards serving programs and projects to limit environmental pollution and minimize the impact of pollution on biodiversity and human health.

This pilot project by DEFRA, JNCC and GAHP also aims to identify the right national priorities for the UK Government's next three-year funding scheme on the environment, biodiversity and climate change, consequences for developing countries, including Vietnam.

Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Sinh, President of the Association gave an overview of VACNE's relationship with partners; preparation for specific options. From the necessary procedures, assigning Members and experts to write reports to the preparation of facilities, equipment and documents (in Vietnamese and English), everyone spoke enthusiastically. . Professors. Dr. National Teacher Pham Ngoc Dang, Prof. Dr. National Teacher Dang Kim Chi; Associate Professors: Hoang Cong Tin, Phung Chi Sy, Trinh Thi Thanh, Le Xuan Canh, Tran Ngoc Hai, Nguyen Huy Nga; Dr. Nguyen The Dong,… all spoke focusing on the issues raised by the JNCC Report.

Commenting on the JNCC's Overview Report on the Impacts of Environmental Pollution on Biodiversity and Public Health, the participants all said that this is a meticulously drafted but methodological report as well as the basis of assessment and the data identified in this Report should be clearer, more logical and specific. Especially the impacts of pollution (both direct and indirect) on biodiversity and human health. For that reason, there is a great need for more specific and scientific information sharing among stakeholders at this important conference.
