Foreign experts and the Forest Research Institute supporting VACNE to find out an effective treatment for the Vietnam Heritage Trees

On July 14, 2011, Mr. Vu Van Dung, one member of the Vietnam Heritage Tree Council and the members of the Voi Phuc Temple Management Board (Hanoi) welcomed the Vietnam Forest Research Institute and scientists from Canada and Japan, in 261 Thuy Khe, Tay Ho District in order to conduct a survey and to support VACNE finding out an effective treatment for 9 “Muom” trees (Mangifera foetida Lour) which were recognized as “Vietnam Heritage Trees”.




After conducting an on-site investigation, Mr. Yasuyuky Hiratsuka, a professor in Forest Pathology and Mycology for the Northern Canadian Forest Service Center, Dr.Shigeru Kaneko from the Japan National Forestry Institute and Ass. Prof. Dr., Pham Quang Thu, a Team Leader of the Disease Research group for Vietnam Forest Research Institute, has proposed numerous treatments for “Muom” trees which are devasted by fungi and termites.
Although some different opinions still remain, the experts considered fungi and termites as the major cause threatening 9 “Muom” trees in Voi Phuc Temple Historical Monument. At the same time, the experts also agreed with VACNE about the necessity to carry out the treatment and to make up a plan to cut branches during this storm season as soon as possible.
Mr. Nguyen Van Tung and Ha Van May, Leaders of the Voi Phuc Temple Management Board,   and the residents of Thuy Khue ward (Tay Ho district, Hanoi) expressed their pleasure and shown their deep gratitude for the attention of VACNE and especially foreign experts about the ancient trees honored as “Vietnam Heritage Tree”.
