Binh Dinh Province to Organize a Ceremony in Honor of Recognizing an Ancient Tamarind Tree in a Museum as Vietnam Heritage Tree
According to the Director of Quang Trung Museum, Binh Dinh Province, Mr. Chau Kinh Tu, the museum is going to organize a ceremony in honor of recognizing an ancient tamarind tree (Tamarindus indica) in a precinct of the museum as a Vietnam Heritage Tree. The ceremony will take place on November 23, 2011, the Vietnam Cultural Heritage Day.
This activity aims at the protection of the rare ancient tree which is closely related to the three Tay Son dynasty brothers. At the same time, it aims to educate current and future generations about patriotic tradition and the nation's pride, and to propagandize local tourism.
A legend says that this tamarind tree was planted by Ho Phi Phuc (a father of the 3 Tay Son dynasty brothers Nguyen Nhac, Nguyen Hue, Nguyen Lu) 200 years ago. Besides aesthetic and landscape value, the tree also has historical importance because underneath its canopy is where the Tay Son Dynasty's brothers used to gather righteous men to discuss national matters. Recently, this tamarind tree has been recognized as a Vietnam Heritage Tree by Vietnam Association for Conservation of Nature and Environment (VACNE).

According to an agenda, the ceremony to honor the Vietnam Heritage Tree will be held solemnly with participation of many VACNE's leaders, Binh Dinh provincial and Tay Son district authorities, and local people and soldiers.
