(VACNE) – On the morning of August 19, the Scientific Council of the Vietnam Nature and Environment Protection Association held a meeting to agree on the policy of compiling and publishing at least one book each year on hot and important issues related to resources and the environment. The first selected topic is "Natural Disasters."

The meeting was chaired by Professor Dr. Dang Kim Chi, Chairman of the Scientific Council, with the direct and online participation of many experts such as Professor Dr. Nguyen Duc Ngu, Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen The Chinh, Associate Professor Dr. Le Trinh, Associate Professor Dr. Le Bac Huynh, along with staff from the Council's Office. The discussions were lively and focused on building a detailed outline and assigning the drafting of chapters for the book.

Experts agree that the main thread of the book will focus on solutions to mitigate damage and adapt to natural disasters, closely linked to the practical context of Vietnam rather than getting lost in general theories. The content will clarify the types of natural disasters characteristic of each ecological and climatic region; at the same time, it will summarize and introduce community models from both domestic and international contexts regarding disaster prevention and damage reduction. The recommendations made must be practical, feasible, and comprehensive.

In particular, many opinions emphasize the application of new technology in monitoring, warning, and forecasting natural disasters. Professor Dr. Dang Kim Chi suggested that the office of the Association actively collect relevant documents, including papers and reports from recent forums such as the "Forum on Disaster Prevention and Early Warning in the Operation of Two-Tier Government" held in Ninh Binh last July.

In addition, the Office of the Association needs to closely coordinate with the Meteorology and Hydrology Department, the Dike Management and Disaster Prevention Department (Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development), the Vietnam Union of Associations, and other related associations to collaborate according to their capabilities, contributing to the drafting of this document.
