Rubbish has piled up in Thai Binh City after local residents blocked the entrance to a waste treatment plant as they protested at the area being polluted by the plant's activities.
According to a local resident on Ly Thai To Street, the rubbish has piled up for the past two days and the smell is becoming more and more unbearable. The polluted Ky Ba River also became even more polluted as households and small businesses dumped rubbish into it.
The pollution is caused after Waste Treatment Plant 2 in Phong Phu Industrial Cluster, Tien Phong Ward has been blocked by a group of people living near the plant.
"We’ve suffered from the smoke from the plant for nearly a decade. The plant also discharged wastewater and polluted the Doan Tuc River. We can't bear it anymore," a local said.
Tien Phong Ward authorities has held a meeting with the residents but no solution has been applied.
Thai Binh Environment & Urban Construction JSC said they couldn't do anything with the piled up rubbish in the city and were waiting for the authorities' solution.
Thai Binh City People's Committee said an urgent meeting was held on July 5 between the city party committee and people's committee and related agencies to discuss the problem.
