Scientists affirmed that using compressed natural gas (CNG) to replace gasoline not only saves 30% of the total fuel cost but also protects environment. Vietnam is a potential market for this kind of compressed natural gas.
The workshop themed “Focus on developing CNG infrastructure in big cities” that took place on May 25 in Hanoi drew the participation of the Government, private operators of Thailand, Pakistan, Malaysia, Singapore and other technology companies.
Currently, the increase in the quantity of transport means has resulted in air pollution caused by emission of gases into environment. In the long run, this will have great impacts on people’s lives. CNG is an environmentally friendly compressed natural gas that has been experimented in Vietnam for nearly 2 years. Up to now, there have been CNG-powered 400 taxis and 100 private cars operated in Ho Chi Minh City and Vung Tau. In Hanoi, Petroleum Taxi Company is also using this kind of gas. CNG is not only used in transportation but also targeted at other industrial sectors.
At the forum, Mr. Nguyen Si Thang, Chairman of Vietnam Gas Association, proposed to the Government that “It is necessary to build a strong policy and create favorable conditions for CNG production plants to go into operation soon; to build CNG transshipment terminal to serve transport and industry sectors; to reduce import tax on CNG when we cannot still produce it; to provide medium- and short-term capital with low interest rates for businesses to be involved in CNG supply market.”
