Authorities in the central province of Quang Tri have rescued a rare sea turtle caught in discarded fishing nets, fitted it with an identification tag and released it back into the sea.
After being notified, the Vinh Hoang Sea Turtle Conservation Volunteer Team coordinated with relevant agencies to conduct the rescue.
The turtle, weighing about 7 kilogrammes and measuring 50 centimetres, belongs to the endangered hawksbill species listed in Vietnam’s Red Data Book.
After a health check, the turtle was fitted with identification tag VN(C) 00031 and released back into the sea.
Local authorities said that since 2019, more than 25 sea turtles have been found, rescued and released in waters off Vinh Hoang Commune.
