A resident in the central city of Hue has voluntarily handed over a rare black eagle to authorities for release back into the wild.
Earlier, the Hue forest rangers received the black eagle after it was voluntarily handed over by a local resident, Tran Trong Hong.
The eagle was released on January 9 into a local forest.
Authorities said the black eagle is listed in Group IIB under regulations of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment on the management of endangered, precious and rare species.
The black eagle is a rare migratory bird of prey in Vietnam, typically inhabiting lowland forested areas near wetlands.
