Deputy Prime Minister Vu Van Ninh has agreed to let the Vietnam Development Bank sign a letter of pledge with US Export-Import Bank on its grant of 1 million USD credit investing in a wind electricity development program in Cuu Long (Mekong) River Delta for the period of 2011-2015.
With relatively stabile wind capacity, some coastal provinces in the Cuu Long River Delta (such as Bac Lieu, Soc Trang, Kien Giang, etc.) are regarded as having potential for wind electricity development. Up to January 2011, there have been 21 wind electricity projects in research and development there. These projects are concentrated in Binh Thuan, Ninh Thuan, Binh Dinh, and Lam Dong provinces that have potential for wind electricity. The designed capacity of these projects is about 2,000 MW.
Recently, the Prime Minister has issued the Decision No 37/2011/QD-TTg on priority mechanism for wind electricity development in which it has been stipulated that projects on wind electricity will have a lot of development assistance regarding investment capital, tax, fee, and land infrastructure and for the wind electricity projects that are connected to the national electricity network there will be a subsidy in price.
In the General electricity outline VII, total capacity of all electricity sources using renewable energy will reach 5.6% in 2020 and 9.4% in 2030.
