The idea of “Pinwheel Farm” was developed by architect Le Vu Cuong and introduced in the Newspaper Agriculture on August 8, 2011 as an incentive to find an adaptive sustainable solution for Ho Chi Minh City and surrounding areas facing hazards of climate change and rising sea level.

According to the planning, each farm would have the area of about 8000 m2 and be arranged systematically at coastal areas possibly flooded by climate change. Main advantages of such a type of farm are harmonious combination of ecological forest and urban areas, maximal use of natural energy resources (sunlight, wind,..) for local needs, saving and rational using of land fund in urban development.

As a circulative ecosystem, agricultural waste and waste water from the farm are treated through a biogas system then reused as fertilizer. A pilot farm is planned to be built in Can Gio, Ho Chi Minh City.
