HCM City authorities plan to spend VND8 trillion (USD347 million) on 218 anti-flood projects in 2019

The city will focus on tackling flooding in most of the approaches into the city and centre with a total population of 6.5 million.

VND5 trillion will be poured into 77 on-going projects, VND2 trillion in 47 new projects and VND819 billion in 94 planned projects.
Several projects which are expected to be finished this year, including drainage improvements on Mai Thi Luu Street and a project to deal with flood tides in the city-centre.
The city has also sped up the projects of collecting water discharge from industrial parks, including boosting the pace of the project to expand Binh Hung Waste Water Treatment Plant with the capacity of 469,000 cubic metres a day. The project is hoped to be completed in the fourth quarter of this year.
Work on Nhieu Loc-Thi Nghe wastewater treatment plant with the daily capacity of 480,000 cubic metres has also been intensified.
From now to the year-end, the city will crack down violations which encroach on culverts as well as canals. Underground reservoirs will be built in severely-flooded areas as well as enhance road projects with the aim to crackdown inundation in the city.
The investment for the projects will be from the city’s budget. HCM City will also call on investments for the projects under the form of public–private partnership.
