The proposal of Mr. Nguyen Thanh Tai , Permanent Vice Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee, to expand Green Business Award has been strongly supported by businesses. This is an opportunity for both small and large-scale businesses to join in this fair playground and to prove their targets towards sustainable development of green trademarks.
Creating an equal “Green” playground
Mr. Nguyen Van Phuoc, Deputy Director of the Department of Natural Resources and Environment cum Deputy Head of the organizing committee of the award, said the 3rd Green Business Award is expanding to production, business and service enterprises. However, the criterion will be much stricter for foreign-invested and large-scale domestic enterprises.
Mr. Nguyen Van Duc, Deputy General Director of Dat Lanh Real Estate Co., Ltd, said the expansion in terms of scale and criteria of the award will be a good opportunity to encourage businesses, especially small and medium sized ones who strive to achieve Green Business Certificate. This is an award with high quality, but its previous general criteria (criteria for foreign-invested and large-scale domestic businesses) caused a lot of difficulties for small and medium sized businesses to achieve. Therefore, many businesses feel disappointed after three consecutive years to pursuit this award with no success.
To encourage enterprises to perform well environmental protection, Vice Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee, Ms. Nguyen Thi Hong, agreed to organize a campaign to propagandize and encourage residential areas to use the products made by such enterprises.
Ms. Quach To Dung, Permanent Deputy Director of the Department of Industry and Commerce, said enterprises who achieved Green Business Certificate will be selected to become key businesses in the implementation of green consumption. Besides, businesses who commit to perform environmental protection well are also encouraged to participate in this campaign.
It can be said that only after 2 years, the campaign on encouraging consummation of green products has received active response and attention from businesses. For example, the 1st Green Product Consumption Campaign attracted the participation of more than 3,000 volunteers; the revenue of the enterprises who participated in the campaign launching week in Co.opMart system increased by 30-40% against a normal week.
In the 2nd campaign, the number of volunteers increased to over 7,000 people. This has shown that the revenue of green businesses and those who implement well environmental protection has increased dramatically. Achieving this, the community has made a significant contribution to improving their own living environment. The last to remain, businesses should try best on their own to achieve Green Business Certificate - A certificate for sustainable development.
