A fire ravaged the Trang An World Heritage Site in the northern province of Ninh Binh, scorching around thousands of square metres of forest.

The blaze occurred on Phu Khong Mountain, situated in the core zone of the Trang An World Heritage Site in Hoa Lu City, at around 4:20 p.m. on Thursday.

After being informed, hundreds of individuals, including firefighters, forestry officers, military personnel, and residents, were dispatched to the scene.

Firefighting equipment was even transported to the wildfire area by boat.

Colonel Dang Van Linh, Head of the Ninh Binh Fire Prevention, Fighting, and Rescue Police Department, stated that the agency deployed multiple fire trucks to combat the blaze. However, the challenging terrain made it impossible for the firefighting force to climb the mountain and reach the fire directly. As a result, they used eight high-capacity portable water pumps to contain the flames and prevent them from spreading.

After many hours of effort, the flames were successfully brought under control.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
