Cycling machines attached to a water filtration system have been installed on the bank of a canal in HCM City. These have not only helped local people to do their exercise, but also keep the canal clean
.
The pilot operation of the four machines at the lake over the past week has attracted many local residents.
The machine’s structure is similar to a bicycle but it is linked to a power generator and a water filtration system. So when people use the machine, the generator will run and produce power.
The power transmitted into a battery helps the water filtration operate to pump water from the lake into a filter tank. After being filtered, water is pumped back into the lake.
The filter tank is filled with sand, gravel and active charcoal to help absorb pollutants.
Many children are interested in using the machine while they can protect the environment.
The 8.7-km Nhieu Loc- Thi Nghe canal which runs through five districts of District 1, District 3, Phu Nhuan District, Binh Thanh District and Tan Binh District, received a facelift in 2012 due to serious pollution.
However, to date, the canal remains one of the most polluted waterways in the city. Around 70 tonnes of dead fish were recently collected from the canal due to pollution
