After inspection, Mr. Bui Cach Tuyen requested Lam Dong Bauxite – Aluminum Complex Management Board (under the Vietnam Coal – Mineral  Industrial Group) to speed up preparation of post-exploitation environment rehabilitation and improvement project to submit to MONRE for approval before an official opening of the mine. He also demanded that two first holds of a red mud pond should be soon completed to ensure operation of aluminum factory.

The project’s Management Board said, to present, main works ensuring the operation of the aluminum factory have been completed and are on test run. As for red mud pond, three contractors are working on the construction but due to heavy rains the progress is rather slow. In recent 2 months, the building work has not been able to take place and the two holds 1 and 2 can possibly be completed only by the end of the 4th quarter of this year.

Meanwhile, Deputy Director of the Department of Environmental Appraisal and Impact Assessment, Mr. Mai The Toan, has requested the project’s Management Board to keep strict control on chemicals in all processes of transportation, storage, and use, and to settle clearly and in accordance with the law issues related to recent environmental accidents. At the meeting it has been said that 6 households and a company have sent petitions to the Management Board demanding compensate for damages.
