Activities to Support Ethnic Communities in Ba Vi District

On December 3, 2011, a workshop summarizing the project "Development of an ecological and community tourism model in Ba Vi District of Hanoi" was held at Ba Vi National Park. VACNE President Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Sinh together with Vice-Chairman of Ba Vi District People's Committee Mr. Bach Cong Tien and Asia Fund representative Ms. To Kim Lien presided the workshop.

This project has been implemented since 2009 by the VACNE's Center for Environment and Community Development (CECoD) with financial support from Asia Fund.
According to a project summary presentation of the CECoD director Ms. Duong Thi To, the project has fulfilled all given task including supporting people of the two communes Ba Vi and Van Hoa in ecological and community tourism awareness raising, raising professional skill for local traditional physicians, training on milk cow husbandry for a number of households, and supporting poor households to improve their livelihood of producing and selling traditional medicines.
The project results were highly appreciated by representatives of relevant institutions and communities in Ba Vi District, especially in Van Hoa and Ba vi communes. Representatives of Dao and Muong ethnic groups expressed their desire to receive similar effective support. More than 70 participants including many VACNE scientists and some NGO's representatives discussed about the results of this project and proposed some measures to enhance these results as well. 
In the afternoon delegates visited some facilities and households participating in the projects to see how praiseworthyare the results of the project.
