After an inspection, authorities identified it as a white-cheeked black gibbon, scientifically known as Nomascus leucogenys, weighing about 6 kilogrammes and in weak health.
Bom Bo Commune Police later handed the animal over to the Bu Gia Map National Park for further care, rehabilitation and release back into the wild in line with regulations.
The white-cheeked black gibbon is an especially endangered and rare forest species in Group IB. It is also listed in Vietnam's Red Book and is among species given priority protection.
