VACNE leaders agree to stay united, maintain order, and successfully carry out the 2026 plan

28 June 2026 | 08:10:00 AM

(VACNE) - On 26 June, the Standing Committee of the Vietnam Association for Wildlife Protection and Environment met both in person and online across three locations: Hanoi, Hue and Ho Chi Minh City, to review the results of the first six months, with a determination to stay united, maintain order, and successfully carry out the 2026 plan – a pivotal year in the Association's 2023-2028 term.

Dr Nguyen Ngoc Sinh, the President of the Association, presented the summary report "On the results of the Association's activities over the past 6 months" with 8 main points. Specifically: Strengthening and expanding the organisational network; Consulting - Assessment - Social feedback; Communication; Scientific research; People-to-people diplomacy; Heritage Tree conservation; Commendation and other tasks.

According to the report: Despite facing many difficulties, the leadership and members of VACNE always maintained their stance, united together, and persistently carried out the plans set out in the past six months. Although there have been significant losses in expert personnel and changes in management, along with some local chapters being dissolved or merged, the Vietnam Society for Nature and Environment still maintained its operational routine and admitted some new members.

The electronic magazine Nature & Environment (an affiliate of the Society) is still going through the procedures to establish a Party cell according to the local system. Some of the Society's leaders, such as Assoc. Prof. Dr. Lê Văn Thăng (Huế), Vice President; Mrs Nguyễn Thị Nga (Hà Nội), Member of the Standing Committee; Mr Đặng Văn Khoa, Executive Committee Member and President of Ho Chi Minh City Vietnam Society for Nature and Environment, are still trusted and have been elected as members of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, XI term 2026–2031.

The Association continues to maintain its strength in consultation and social feedback. Leaders and many members at both central and local levels actively contribute opinions at seminars, workshops and respond through media on issues related to resources, the environment, green transition, circular economy, sustainable development, especially during major national events and in contributing to drafting important documents and reports for official agencies. Nearly half of the experts invited to contribute to amendments to the Environmental Protection Law and policy files related to the Disaster Prevention Law are members of the Vietnam Association for Nature Conservation and Environment.

In addition, VACNE also sent representatives to attend the appraisal meeting for the policy documents of the Law on Marine and Island Resources and Environment at the request of the Ministry of Justice; the meeting to give feedback on the draft Special Urban Law in Ho Chi Minh City; and also studied to respond to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development about the pilot scheme for restoring and rehabilitating degraded, depleted and polluted water sources in the Bac Hung Hai, Nhue-Day, and Ngu Huyen Khe rivers, as well as responding to consultancy requests from some businesses regarding the origin of resources, etc.

The communication work has been well maintained by the Association, not only on its own Website and the TN&MT e-magazine but also on mass media channels of various sectors, localities and the State; at the same time organising many successful events related to environmental protection, biodiversity conservation, and Heritage Tree preservation. In addition, the Association has co-organised discussions on the topic 'Natural Resources and Green Transition in Vietnam'; held the 'Green Field – Clean Air' contest for farmers, as an activity to promote the results of the Association's project contracted with GAHP. In coordination with the Green Growth Institute (Agricultural Academy), it has organised contests to find young green ambassadors, environmental painting competitions, and songwriting competitions for the national Green Environment theme. The Association has also launched the Environmental Health Network chaired by Prof. Dr. Dang Kim Chi and carried out some initial related activities such as discussions and scientific workshops.

Regarding scientific research work: Along with successfully completing the research contract with GAHP on “Open Burning” (the project summary took place in Ho Chi Minh City on 4/3/2026), the Association also proactively compiled two books “Natural Disasters - Proactive Prevention and Mitigation” (chiefed by Prof. Dr. Nguyen Duc Ngu) and “Conservation of Vietnam's Heritage Trees” (chiefed by Prof. Dr. Dang Huy Huynh) on time for the publisher. These are state-commissioned publications issued by the National Political Publishing House. From the same project, the Association successfully co-organised the Regional Pollution Forum (live in Ho Chi Minh City and online for 20 points in countries across the region). In addition, the Association also successfully co-organised the workshop “Promoting the Potential of Vietnam's Heritage Trees, Developing a Green, Sustainable Economy in Hoanh Mo Commune, Quang Ninh Province” during the Heritage Tree Award Ceremony in the local area; at the same time, it implemented the project “Conservation of Land Mountain Fir” in Lao Cai to preserve endangered gel resources.

VACNE has been doing quite well in people-to-people diplomacy too. This is clearly shown not only through GAHP cooperation: continuing to coordinate with the Korean ETM Association to hold the annual scientific conference (the 9th edition)… but most clearly: the English version on the Association's website continuously gets many 'views', with numbers growing increasingly (over tens of thousands per day).

At some international workshops involving the Association, the incident response experience of the Association's SOS Environmental Centre was presented and received attention from the attending delegates.

In the past six months, several organisations and individuals from South Korea, Sweden, the UK, France, etc. have directly visited the Association's office to learn about and propose cooperation in some environmental protection areas.

Trusted by the community, the "Vietnam Heritage Tree Conservation" activities of the Association have been very well maintained. Over the past six months, hundreds of dossiers have been reviewed, with more than 50 trees recognised as Vietnam Heritage Trees. The Association has collaborated with localities to organise dozens of Heritage Tree Recognition Ceremony events, which have been covered by the media and well received and appreciated by society. The manuscript of the book "The Community and Heritage Trees" commissioned by the National Political Publishing House was submitted on time.

At this meeting, the delegates also heard about the commendation and reward activities as well as other activities of the Association and its affiliated units and affirmed: The whole Association has successfully completed the set plan and is aiming to complete the tasks for the year 2026, with an approach that is proactive and calm in the face of changing circumstances, maintaining operations, and ensuring the effective execution of professional contracts and tasks.

The Vietnam Association for Nature Conservation and Environment is determined to maintain its tradition as a trusted address for central and local government agencies in the field of social consultation, resource and environment communication, green transition, circular economy and sustainable development. In particular, the "Vietnam Heritage Tree Conservation" activity continues as a special product, being a highlight in VACNE's activities.
