The first Ba gai tree was recognized as a Vietnam Heritage Tree.

(VACNE) - This morning (May 17), in Buon Ma Thuot City (Dak Lak), a ceremony was held to recognize the Ba gai tree which is over 100 years old as a Vietnam Heritage Tree.

This is the first time a Ba gai tree (scientific name Trifidacanthus unifoliolatus Merr.), also known as Linh sam – Sông Hinh, has been recognized in the Vietnam Heritage Trees system, contributing to enriching the list of rare tree species in Vietnam.

The recognition ceremony was held right on the occasion of the nationwide celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and the reunification of the country, while also looking forward to the 135th anniversary of the birth of the great President Ho Chi Minh.
This event is significant in honoring the generations that came before us who have explored and preserved the Central Highlands region.The ceremony was attended by leaders of VACNE, the Chairman of the Vietnam Nature and Environment Protection Association, the Chairman of the Dak Lak Province Ornamental Plant Association, along with numerous artisans of ornamental plants from neighboring provinces and local residents who came to participate and present flowers of congratulations.

 Representatives of VACNE, Dak Lak Province Association for Conservation of Nature and Environment awarded the Certificate and Decision recognizing the Vietnam Heritage Tree to the tree owner.

The Linh Sam tree is currently being cared for and preserved at the Eastern Plant Garden, Tan Hoa Ward, Buon Ma Thuot City. The owner of the tree, artisan Trần Vân Bích, director of Eastern Environmental Company Limited, stated that this is a great honor for him as well as for the local people. "This recognition not only reflects the responsibility in preserving this rare genetic resource, but also contributes to promoting the biodiversity of Vietnam and boosting the development of eco-tourism and the socio-economic conditions of the locality," Mr. Bích shared. He also vowed to continue collaborating with relevant agencies to care for and preserve the tree under the best conditions.
