(TTXVN) - On the morning of April 22, in Hanoi, the Vietnam Association for Nature and Environment Protection (Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations) held a seminar on "Natural Resources and Green Transformation in Vietnam", combined with the launch of a book of the same name published by the National Political Publishing House - Truth.

Experts discussed the practicalities of the green transition process in Vietnam at the seminar.
In his opening speech at the seminar, Dr Nguyen Ngoc Sinh, Chairman of the Vietnam Nature and Environment Protection Association, stated that in the context of the world facing serious challenges such as climate change, biodiversity loss, environmental pollution and depletion of natural resources, the green transition has become increasingly urgent and topical. This is not only a shift in economic development models from "brown" to "green", but also a comprehensive reform process aimed at sustainable development, environmental protection and promoting social justice.
Recognising the importance of sustainable development requirements, the 13th National Congress of the Party emphasised the task: "Proactively monitor and effectively respond to climate change; develop a green, low-waste economy, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and achieve low carbon." This policy reflects the determination of our Party and State to transform the growth model, both exploiting the country's potential effectively and protecting the ecological environment, with the goal that by the mid-21st century, our country will become a developed nation with a socialist orientation.
Dr Nguyen Ngoc Sinh hopes that the seminar will help spread the scientific and practical values of the research work, while also promoting the community's awareness and action in the rational use of natural resources, environmental protection, and advancing green transition for the sustainable development of the country.
Referring to the issue "Natural Resources and Green Thinking: From an Economic Perspective", Associate Professor, PhD Nguyễn Danh Sơn from the Vietnam Nature and Environment Protection Association stated that natural resources are an essential foundation for development, providing both raw materials and energy while maintaining ecological balance and environmental security. However, excessive exploitation and environmental pollution in recent times have rapidly depleted the country's natural resources. In this context, the development of renewable energy, circular agriculture, forest protection, sustainable water management, and mineral extraction linked with clean technology in the green transition process all indicate a trend of utilising natural advantages while preserving them, moving closer to the goal of fast and sustainable development.
In Vietnam, in recent times, the development of the economy has still been of a "brown" nature, meaning development in which economic growth relies heavily on exploiting and using natural resources and the environment beyond the natural regeneration threshold, exceeding the environment's capacity to absorb waste, causing damage, pollution, and environmental degradation.
At the seminar, many experts, scientists and managers in the field of resources and environment exchanged and discussed theoretical and practical issues of the green transition process in Vietnam today, such as developing a circular economy, thereby proposing a joint message of supporting the transition for a green Vietnam, for a green future.
Within the framework of the seminar, the Vietnam Nature and Environment Protection Society introduced the book "Natural Resources and Green Transition in Vietnam", compiled by the Vietnam Nature and Environment Protection Society and published by the National Political Publishing House Truth..
The book consists of three parts, focusing on clarifying the theoretical basis of the relationship between natural resources and the green transition process; some issues in the exploitation, use and protection of Vietnam's natural resources; thereby presenting perspectives, directions, and solutions to improve institutions, policies, and to innovate thinking and approaches in the management of natural resources and the green transition in Vietnam.
