HCM City’s Forest Protection Department has cooperated with residents and captured a pig-tailed macaque that had been troubling many households.
On August 5, after receiving reports of a monkey entering a house in Alley 301 on Binh Long Street, Binh Hung Hoa Ward, HCM City, forest rangers joined forces with local authorities and residents to catch the animal.
After several hours of searching, forest rangers successfully tranquillised and captured the monkey. It was later taken in for care and rehabilitation.
The HCM City Forest Protection Department reported that the animal is a male pig-tailed macaque (Macaca leonina) weighing approximately 6.5 kilogrammes. This species is classified as Group IIB, which lists endangered, precious, and rare species in Vietnam.
According to a resident, the monkey had frequently entered houses in search of food. It even grabbed cakes and fruit from the family altar and climbed into the home through a window.
People in Binh Hung Hoa Ward felt reassured knowing the animal had been captured, and hoped it would be returned to a safe and suitable natural habitat.
