HCM City steps up crackdown on counterfeit goods

29 May 2026 | 07:46:00 AM

Authorities in Ho Chi Minh City intensified inspections of suspected counterfeit goods on May 28, uncovering hundreds of products lacking invoices or proof of origin.

Market surveillance teams under the city’s Market Management Department inspected multiple businesses across the city, seizing footwear, cosmetics, clothing and accessories suspected of trademark infringement.

Team No. 12, working with Gia Dinh Ward police, discovered 92 pairs of Nike and Adidas-branded sports shoes and sandals worth more than VND 100 million (USD 3,800) without invoices or Vietnamese labels.

Authorities said the products showed signs of violating intellectual property regulations and were coordinating with representatives of Nike and Adidas in Vietnam for further investigation.

At the same time, Team No. 16 inspected businesses in Phu Hoa Dong, Tan An Hoi and Cu Chi areas, finding hundreds of skincare products, perfumes, hair creams and sportswear with unclear origins.

The seized items included products bearing labels resembling brands such as Lacoste, Nike, Adidas and Crocs.

Meanwhile, Team No. 14, working with police and local authorities, confiscated 792 suspected counterfeit products, including Honda-branded motorcycle accessories and clothing, socks and footwear bearing logos similar to Chanel, Calvin Klein, Nike and Tommy Hilfiger.

According to the city’s Market Management Department, many businesses have recently shortened opening hours or temporarily closed shops to avoid inspections amid intensified media coverage and enforcement efforts.
