(VACNE) – Recently, the Organising Committee and the Judging Panel of the “Green Fields – Clean Air” Competition held an award ceremony for 14 groups and individuals with outstanding entries nationwide (on 13 and 14 May 2026)
The competition, organised by the Vietnam Association for Conservation of Nature and Environment (VACNE), aims to promote and raise community awareness about reducing the burning of straw after harvest, protecting air quality, and encouraging green agricultural models and sustainable development.
According to the competition rules, the Organising Committee does not hold a central award ceremony but sends certificates and prize money to the winning authors by post. However, for the two highest prizes, the Organising Committee personally visits the localities to present the awards to recognise, encourage, and promote exemplary models originating from the practical production of farmers.
The Gold Prize in the "Green Copper" category was awarded at the home of contestant Trần Hữu Toàn, Binh Cang 2 hamlet, Thu Thua commune, Tay Ninh province, for the entry "Sharing experiences in handling straw on over 8,000m² of rice fields". The article shares practical experiences in handling post-harvest straw to improve soil, reduce production costs and limit environmental pollution from field burning activities.

Speaking at the award ceremony, Mr Trần Hữu Toàn emotionally shared: "In the past, many people thought burning straw was the fastest way to prepare the soil for the new crop. But when applying the method of handling straw in the fields, I noticed the soil improved, fertiliser use was reduced, and the environment was cleaner. I am very pleased that my small experience has been recognised by the Organising Committee."
The Silver Prize in the "Clean Air" category was awarded at the headquarters of the People's Committee of Phu Lam Commune, An Giang Province, to contestant Nguyen Van Si for the entry "From White Smoke to Green Fields". The work vividly reflects the change in local people's awareness of the harms of burning straw and the benefits of implementing environmentally friendly production solutions.

The 'Green Fields – Clean Air' competition is not merely an environmental communication activity, but also helps sow seeds of change directly in the fields and in the daily lives of the people. So that 'green fields' are not just an image, and 'clean air' is not just a wish, but becomes a reality in every rural field of Vietnam.
